Fusion of Tradition and Innovation
Crafting Organic Design for Panyaden International School
Chiangmai Life Construction’s Bamboo Sports Hall for Panyaden International School in Thailand is a remarkable fusion of modern organic design, cutting-edge engineering, and a timeless material – bamboo.
Lotus-Inspired Design
Bridging Academics and Buddhist Teachings
Inspired by the lotus flower, the design reflects the essence of Panyaden International School’s locale in Thailand, where Buddhist teachings intricately intertwine with the academic curriculum, exploring the profound workings of the human mind.
Harmonizing with Nature
Integration into Earthen and Bamboo Landscape
Tasked with accommodating 300 students, the hall seamlessly integrates with existing earthen and bamboo structures of the school and embraces the natural hilly terrain. Emphasizing a low carbon footprint and adhering to Panyaden’s “Green School” mission, the structure employs bamboo as its sole material.
Versatile Facility with Sustainable Essence
Modern Sports Amenities with a Green Footprint
Encompassing 782 sqm, the hall caters to various sports activities, housing courts for futsal, basketball, volleyball, and badminton, along with a versatile stage. Balconies on both sides accommodate parents and spectators. The design ensures a cool and comfortable climate year-round through natural ventilation and insulation.
Aesthetic and Structural Mastery
Exhibition of Bamboo Craftsmanship
The exposed bamboo structure serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, providing a visually appealing backdrop. Designed in compliance with modern safety standards, the hall withstands local natural forces, including high-speed winds and earthquakes.
Innovative Structural Design
Prefabricated Bamboo Trusses for Sustainability
The hallmark of innovation lies in prefabricated bamboo trusses with a span exceeding 17 meters, devoid of steel reinforcements or connections. These trusses, crafted on-site and lifted into position using a crane, exhibit the potential of bamboo in structural design.
Zero Carbon Footprint
Environmentally Conscious Construction
Panyaden’s Sports Hall stands as a testament to sustainability with a zero carbon footprint. The bamboo utilized absorbs carbon extensively, surpassing emissions during treatment, transport, and construction. The bamboo selection, treated with borax salt sans toxic chemicals, ensures a lifespan of at least 50 years.
