1. Shaping Collaborative Workspaces

In a world dominated by digital prowess, the dynamics of traditional workspaces are evolving rapidly. F5 Proyectos y Arquitectura, through their project Cowork Greenhouse in Oviedo, Spain, has envisioned an integrated and collaborative workspace. Recognizing the impact of information accessibility, transformation speed, and the synergy of people and processes, the architects emphasize the need for horizontal, cross-generational formulas that enhance workplace experiences.

  1. Greenhouses as Inspirational Spaces

Drawing inspiration from historical architectural spaces like greenhouses, which historically embodied innovation and exploration in production processes, the project envisions a contemporary interpretation of these structures. Greenhouses, dating back to Tiberius’ reign, were not only innovative but also served as meeting points and sources of amusement in the nineteenth century. This historical context blends seamlessly with modern workplace dynamics.

  1. A Fusion of Concepts in Oviedo

The transformation took place in an abandoned car garage in Oviedo’s city center, merging the concepts of greenhouses and collaborative workspaces. F5 Proyectos y Arquitectura saw an opportunity to reimagine architecture in conjunction with various professionals and citizen initiatives. The result is a dynamic and sustainable habitat that fosters genuine socio-cultural and work interrelationships.

  1. Thoughtful Spatial Division

The floor plan is strategically divided into three distinct zones. The first, closer to the street, is dedicated to meeting rooms and workspaces. The second, featuring toilets and a small kitchen, provides an open space for exhibitions alongside a coffee area. The third, beneath the vaulted structure of the former car garage, transforms into an ideal reading space, offering flexibility for varied work activities. Working tables, a recording studio, and a loft library further enhance the workspace’s versatility.

  1. Minimalistic and Warm Design Palette

The architects adhered to a minimalistic design approach, opting for a warm and pleasant environment with a focus on user activities. A carefully curated palette of five materials was chosen, including concrete flooring as a nod to the workshop’s industrial past, fir wood for divisions and furniture, glass for cohesion and transparency, and natural plants for a touch of green. This thoughtful selection accentuates the essence of the space, allowing the users and their activities to take center stage.

  1. Illuminating Illusions: The Result

Beyond budget constraints, the project aimed to utilize a minimal number of materials to highlight the users’ activities. The result is a space where illusions come to life, serving as a powerful catalyst for both economic and human activity. Cowork Greenhouse stands as a testament to the seamless fusion of historical inspiration and contemporary innovation, creating an environment that nurtures creativity and collaboration in the heart of Oviedo.
